It was a beautiful blue-sky day, perfect for working in the garden. That’s exactly what our newest friend, XL Catlin did as part of their Global Day of Giving. Isabelle Felix, from their Bloomfield office, coordinated a visit from ten of their employees to rehabilitate a 4-unit apartment in Orange that is occupied by IHN families as part of the Home for Good program. Like any residence, it needed some sprucing up and the folks at XL Catlin proved worthy of the challenge.
The task before them was to clean and paint the main hallway and doors and add some plantings in the front of the house. These volunteers were creative problem solvers. Knowing that two areas next to the front walk withstood a lot of activity they didn’t want to add plants that would soon be trampled. Instead they found several unused slabs of slate in the backyard and hauled them to the front to improve that busy thoroughfare.
Speaking to some of the residents, they expressed their gratefulness to be coming home to these improvements. Just walking in the front door to a landscaped yard and clean and freshly painted hallway instills a sense of pride and reminds them that others care and want to help.
