The Interfaith Hospitality Network for the Homeless of Essex County provides services to homeless families with children to help them gain self-sufficiency.   We deliver services to families through volunteers of all faiths who share our goal.

Emergency Sheltering

Our network of 80 congregations throughout Essex County provides emergency overnight shelter and meals to families in need.  Our program operates 365 days per years and families in crisis usually stay in a hosting congregations building for one week before moving on to the next hosting congregation.

Transitional Housing

Our Transitional Housing facility opened on April 15, 2007 and has two apartments.  These Supportive Housing Units provided affordable housing to two families working towards self-sufficiency.  We are working towards providing additional housing units to provide support to additional families.

Case Management Counseling

Our professionally trained staff manages every aspect of a families emergency needs.  This includes emotionally support, emergency assistance program education, job counseling, educational counseling and financial counseling.

Education & Training

Our program connects families with educational & training programs that are often the key to increasing wage levels and moving families into supportive or independent living.

Post Emergency Support

After families move from emergency shelter to a more permanent living solution our staff maintains an ongoing relations to ensure that families can maintain their independence.

Ministry & Mitzvah Opportunities

Congregations living the word of God looking for meaningful ways to help those in need open their buildings to house two to four homeless families for a week at a time.  Volunteers create living space within their buildings, provide meals, and most important emotional support in a time of great need.
