The Interfaith Hospitality Network for the Homeless of Essex County provides
services to homeless families with children to help them gain self-sufficiency.
We deliver services to families through volunteers of all faiths who share our
goal.
Emergency Sheltering
-
Our network of 80 congregations throughout Essex County provides
emergency overnight shelter and meals to families in need. Our program
operates 365 days per years and families in crisis usually stay in a hosting
congregations building for one week before moving on to the next hosting
congregation.
Transitional Housing
- Our Transitional Housing facility opened on April 15, 2007 and has two
apartments. These Supportive Housing Units provided affordable housing
to two families working towards self-sufficiency. We are working
towards providing additional housing units to provide support to additional
families.
Case Management Counseling

Our professionally trained staff manages every aspect of a families
emergency needs. This includes emotionally support, emergency
assistance program education, job counseling, educational counseling and
financial counseling.
Education & Training
- Our program connects families with educational & training programs that
are often the key to increasing wage levels and moving families into
supportive or independent living.
Post Emergency Support
-
After families move from emergency shelter to a more permanent living
solution our staff maintains an ongoing relations to ensure that families
can maintain their independence.
Ministry & Mitzvah Opportunities
- Congregations living the word of God looking for meaningful ways to help
those in need open their buildings to house two to four homeless families
for a week at a time. Volunteers create living space within their
buildings, provide meals, and most important emotional support in a time of
great need.
